3 Reasons Why You Should Run for the 2018 Edition of Run and Raise

There may be a personal reason for you wanting to run for a charity. It may help you feel like you’re doing your bit for the cause that is closer to your heart. You may look at the challenge and think: What’s the purpose of actually doing it other than just getting to the finish line?

New World Hotels Resorts teams up with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya for Run and Raise 2018.

Samson, and AG New World Manila Bay General Manager Mark Heywood doing the finger heart sign after signing the memorandum of agreement for the fourth edition of New World Hotels and Resort Run and Raise 2018.

If you run for a charity then there’ll be plenty of you in the same boat, so you’ll never be without someone to turn to on race day should you be nervous, unsure or start to flag. Here are 3 reasons why you should run for the 2018 edition of Run and Raise that will be held at Rajah Sulayman Park, Roxas Boulevard, Malate, Manila, on the 21st of January 2018.

1. Your efforts can make a real difference

The money raised provides invaluable funds to a wide range of charities. A charity that benefits enormously from runners efforts is Hope for Children, Community and Environment.

2. You get to support a 3n1 charity fun run.

With several numbers of things to support with, New World Hotels and Resorts teams up with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. Proceeds of the event will benefit ALKFI three major programs that correspond to the values of leadership, passion, excellence, commitment, integrity, accountability, compassion, bayanihan and health and wellness. Its programs are the following:

Operation Sagip: From relief operations to restoring communities

Operation Sagip is the emergency humanitarian assistance program of ALKFI. It provides food and non-food relief to disaster – affected communities of disasters and engages in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects. Its objectives are: 1) participative development of a family-friendly community; 2) foster strong partnership and shared responsibility with all stakeholders; 3) adhere to an efficient and responsible stewardship of entrusted resources; 4) encourage spirit of volunteerism and sense of community among Filipinos worldwide and; 5) promote conscientious and nurturing attitude towards the environment in all its activities.

Under Operation Sagip is a community development project called Bayanijuan (BNJ) sa Southville 7 located in Calauan, Laguna. It is a relocation site co-managed with the National Housing Authority. The 5422 families living in this area are made up of informal settlers originally living along the banks and waterways of Pasig River and the victims of Typhoon Ondoy in 2009 and Yolanda in 2013. BayaniJuan concentrates its efforts in community rehabilitation and replication to different areas nationwide; especially on disaster-affected areas.

On the other hand, Programa Genio is the educational advocacy arm committed to working with public elementary school children and communities nationwide to discover and develop the inherent genio or genius in every child. It adopted several schools in BayaniJuan sa Southville 7 Calauan, Laguna; and two day care centers: “Firstville” and “SMC” in order to provide access to education for preschoolers. Programa Genio also implements Alternative Learning System (ALS) Program to help adults and out-of-school youth complete the DepEd’s basic education program so they can have more solid credentials either for job applications or applications to colleges or universities.

Bantay Kalikasan: From La Mesa watershed’s success to championing ecotourism sites

Launched in 1998, Bantay Kalikasan (BK), ALKFI’s environment advocacy arm, has propelled massive changes towards the protection and sustainability of the country’s natural environment. For almost two decades, it has initiated different projects such as watershed rehabilitation and management, recovery and recycling of Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULABs) and used oil, advocacy building through Information and Education Campaigns (IECs) and community empowerment.

Bantay Kalikasan is currently building model communities in the different provinces nationwide. Most of these provinces are considered significant biodiversity areas that are vulnerable to degradation due to human activities and the effects of climate change. BK’s strategy is to empower the people of these communities to be advocates and protectors of their local ecosystem and to train them in alternative income streams that are sustainable and environment-friendly. This is done through capacity building in values formation and transformation, and providing assistance in setting up eco-friendly enterprises.  BK believes that partnership and collaboration with the local government units, national government agencies, academic institutions and other stakeholders is key to the successful implementation of its projects.

Bantay Bata 163: Because every child deserves a better future

Bantay Bata, Asia’s model for child care services, celebrated its 19th anniversary this year. Its toll free hotline, 1-6-3, remains as the country’s only helpline devoted to receiving and responding to child abuse reports. The program’s services have widened through the years and now includes medical and legal assistance, counseling and family therapy, educational scholarships through Bantay Edukasyon, feeding programs  through Bantay Kalusugan, and community outreach programs such as medical and dental mission.

Bantay Bata is present in major provinces nationwide. It operates in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, Laguna, Metro Manila, Negros, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga. It also conducts operations in Bulacan, Cavite and Rizal.

BB163 has responded to more than 300,000 since 1997. It has likewise extended medical assistance to more than 2,000 patients with 31 major surgeries performed in partner hospitals. Scholarship grants awarded through Bantay Edukasyon Program has been an effective intervention for children who survived the abuse and to deserving community-based students. Most performed exceptionally well in school and have a genuine sense of appreciation for the assistance they received. Bantay Edukasyon scholars, who are now in college or have graduated, pay the kindness forward by actively participating in Bantay Bata’s activities and mission.

3. It makes you feel great.

The idea that you're helping the less fortunate people fortunate than yourself or supporting a worthwhile service can have a powerful effect on your sense of self-worth. And it will put a little extra motivation for you to complete the distance on that day.

Isn't great when you can do something great for yourself while doing something good for others? Running charity races like Run and Raise is a perfect way to merge those passion.
