Find a Local Race - Welcome to Cabangan Mountain Run 2018

The differences in road running and trail running are more than just the surface. Trail running adds a big dose of the unknown, high-demand physical experience that road running just can’t match.

There are many scenic races in the Philippines, delivering on dense forests, moss, soft trails, river, ferns and more. But this race—both the 35K and the 12K—serve up the added bonus of passing by the beautiful and unexplored mountains of Cabangan that offer a truly unique experience.  A local go-to destination hides within an unexplored green patch on a map awaiting for you to run and enjoy the scenic looks of Cabangan, Zambales on the 2nd Sunday of January 2018.

From the trails of Mount Tabulhik to chasing waterfalls, runners will get a chance to see the breathtaking view of Zambales beaches and the West Philippine Sea. The route consists of different kinds of terrain, river crossings, dirt road, sharp boulders and some technical sections. The race has an average altitude of 600 - 750 masl. 

This event is also a race for worthwhile cause. Part of the proceeds will go to the indigenous people of Sitio Lahong and Mount Tabulhik of Cabangan, Zambales.

For residents of Cabangan, Zambales, registration fees will  have the following discounted price:
35K Category - Php 1,100
12K Category - Php 500

Entry Requirement
35K Category
Participants/Runners must have at least one (1) 21K trail run or 32K road race within one (1) year before the race day. Results must be verifiable thru the internet. Participants/Runners must be eighteen (18) years old and above.

12K Category
Participants/Runners must at least have one (1) 5km or longer distance race (road or trail) within one (1) year before the race day. Results must be verifiable thru internet. Runners/Participants must be 15 years old and above.

Registration Period for Cabangan Mountain Run 2018 will be from November 9, 2017 until December 29, 2017 only. There will be LIMITED SLOTS for the said event and there will be NO EXTENSION after the last day of registration.

Registration Procedure

Bank Deposit
1. Please deposit your registration fees at BPI account # 1789 1404 52 under the account name of JOEL D. SINDANUM.

2. Write your full name, age, gender, contact number, shirt size, contact person and number to be called in case of emergency, team name and qualifying race to your deposit slip.

3. Scan and email your deposit slip to cabanganmountainrun@gmail.com. Please indicate on the subject: CMR35K or CMR12K (depending on your category).

Kindly bring the original copy of your deposit slip together with the medical certificate (for 35K Category) upon claiming your race bib before the race.

Assembly and Gun-Start
35K Category
Assembly time is at 3:00 AM at Cabangan Sports Complex
Gun-start is at 4:00 AM at Cabangan Sports Complex
12K Category
Assembly time is at 5:00 AM at Cabangan Sports Complex
Gun-start is at 6:00 AM at Cabangan Sports Complex

Cut-off Time
* The 35K distance runners must complete the entire course within 13 hours or 5:00 PM. There will be an intermediate cut-off time for this category. Runners should be at Km 14 ( Tabulhik tree house) after 5 hours - 9:00 AM and should be at KM 16 (Kubo ni Kalolo)  after 7 hours - 11:00 AM.

* The 12K distance runners must complete the entire course within 5 hours - 11:00 AM. There is no intermediate cut-off for this category. There will be 3 aid stations provided for the runners.

Along the route there will be Aid Stations at the following KM:
▪ KM 3 - Firing Range (water only)
▪ KM 5 - Sitio Lahong (food and water)
▪ KM 14/23 - Tree House ( food, coffee, soda and water)
▪ KM 30 - Sitio Baculi Tribal Hall (food, soda and water)
▪ KM 31 - Sitio Lahong (food and water)
▪ KM34 - Firing Range (water only)


Mandatory Items and Gears

▪ Whistle
▪ Flashlight/headlamp (for 35K runners only)
▪ First aid kit
▪Water carrier (bladder, handheld bottles, etc.) with volume of at least 1L. ( no water cups will be provided at the aid stations.)
▪ Trail food

* Participants should wear the bib number given by the organizers at all times in a visible place and it should not be cut, folded or modified.
* The organizers will assign marshall/s throughout the race to ensure that runners will complete the entire course and the same will also register the specific time of the runner in finishing the race.
* Any runner who leaves the race during the course must inform the nearest control point or any organizing team member.


Race Rules / Guidelines

1. Failure to submit a medical certificate (for 35K runners only) and signed waiver will be disqualified.
2. Participants are advised to bring all the mandatory items and gears.
3. All runners must be on the starting line at least 1 hour before gun start.
4. Bib number must be worn and must be visible at all times.
5. Registrants who wish to downgrade to lower distance is not allowed.
6. Substitution to the run race in their behalf is not allowed.
7. Participants must report to the assigned marshall/s to have their names and numbers recorded especially at the sections where intermediate cut-off time is required.
8. Runners who want to discontinue to run the race must inform the organizer or marshall/s.
9. No littering.
10. No picking of any plants.
11. Be friendly.
12. Respect the people, community and nature.
13. No smoking.
14. No cheating.
15. No exemptions to the rules.
16. No refunds will be given.

The organizers may disqualify a participant from the race for any of the following reasons:

1. Throwing waste at the course, and outside designated areas
2. Not passing through all the checkpoints
3. Not making the entire journey on foot through the spots marked by the organizers
4. Not wearing a visible bib number
5. Showing unsportmanlike conduct.

* These rules may be amended, modified or improved at any time by the organizers.
* Special awards awaits the top 3 male and female finishers for both category.

HOW TO GET THERE (FROM MANILA ):

Cabangan, Zambales is located 206+ km away from Manila. You have two (2) options coming from Manila:

1. If you will travel via bus you will either take a ride at Victory Liner Terminals such as Pasay Terminal, Cubao Terminal and Caloocan Terminal.

Ride on a bus either of the said bus terminals going to Iba or Sta. Cruz, Zambales.

You will get off the bus at Cabangan Public Market. The venue of the race which is the Cabangan Sports Complex is only 20 meters away and is located on the rear part of the market.

If there are no busses available going straight to Iba or Sta. Cruz, you can also take a ride going to Olongapo City. When you reached the Olongapo City Victory Liner Terminal, get off the bus and transfer to another bus going to Iba, Zambales or Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Again your drop off point will be at Cabangan Public Market. 

The approximate travel time from Manila to Cabangan via bus is 5-6 hours.

2. Via your own vehicle, you will take the NLEX route and then continue by driving through SCTEX. You will then enter the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and exit at Kalaklan Gate. Continue travelling the National Hi-Way until you reached the town of San Marcelino. You will then take the short cut and go straight ahead till you reached the town of Cabangan. Look for Cabangan Public Market. On the rear part of the said market is the Cabangan Sports Complex wherein the said race will commence. It will take 3-4 hours to travel.

*It is strongly recommended that all participants must be physically fit. The 35K runners/participants are required to submit a Medical Certificate stating that they are fit to run. The validity of Medical Certificate should be 3 months prior to the race day.

About the Beneficiary


The group of Tabulhik Trail Runners was established on July 10, 2017. Their group was named after the beautiful Mt Tabulhik which they discovered when they are exploring the mountains of Cabangan. Their goal was to help the IP's of the remote areas.
