Race Recaps: My night sweats paid off at Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas 2017

On Sunday July 23 I joined my fourth trail race event dubbed as "Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas 2017," one of the most anticipated trail race in the country being participated with trail runners from all forms of life, from beginners to amateur to elite ones battling a 34 degree temperatures on a muddy rolling trails of Subic.

With my new-found confidence, I started to come out of my ‘funk’ and really enjoy myself.

From someone who's used with running in roads and still new in trail running races, Salomon XTrail Pilipinas 2017 is by far the most impressive trail race I've been to. Race team were so hospitable that even after the race their staffs roamed around the venue bidding goodbyes and sending well-wishes to the runners. Felt safe in the trail since knowledgeable forest rangers and race marshals are standing by in most areas guiding us to the right route. The runnable trail with the presence of elite trail runners and Salomon athletes felt like we were filming an episode of Salomon Running TV, haha!

Post race pic with my perks of placing 4th female in 12K category. Thank you to all the generous sponsors of Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas 2017!

I don't have medal to remember the race (because I joined in the 12KM non-medal category) but I both got lucky for two things. One, I finished fourth among the women in my category; two - Salomon with all sponsors are ever so generous to give prizes to the top 5 finishers in each categories. Nalgene, Sea to Summit  and other nice products are much better than medals I swear! Already looking forward to the next year's edition of Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas! Another reason I joined this race was to support the race organizers, Go Green initiative, and their mission to promote sustainability and eco-awareness through their events.

Standing with these strong experienced (not to mention super pretty) lady runners. Meeting them made me realize sinuwerte lang talaga ko at maraming maraming marami pa kong alikabok na kakainin at landas na tatahakin para maintindihan yung lalim ng dedication and experience nila in this sport.

Me with my teammates Alfredo, Rael, and Dennis of Mt. CCP Runners.

I could have walked the rest of the race and would not have landed a good spot in my category if it weren't for them especially to Alfredo who kept me running 'til the end kahit ang sakit-sakit na! Smile Emoticon. The real prize for me is enjoying the downhills, cursing the uphills and sweat if it all together to have a strong finish.

In the end, I did much better than I thought I would and really surprised myself. I’m so grateful to be running and racing again, and I just want to keep going, even if it means tripping up along the way. Thanks to the race directors for putting on such a great race! And special shout-out to the aid-station volunteers, marshals, and the local aetas of Subic for guiding us the right trail!

Wala namang kailangang patunayan. Basta masaya lang sa biyaya ng lakas ng katawan at isipan para makatakbo kahit saan, kapatagan man o kabundukan. - Maan Villamor

Congratulations Maan on you recent podiums, Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas 2017, 12Km Women - 4th Runner up, Mt. Oriod Marathon, 12Km Women - 1st Runner Up, and 3rd Conquer Jagged Peak, 21KM Women - 2nd Runner Up!
