Valentines Day Build @ SMDC GK Village 2016

#LoveMeansWalangIwanan #WalangIwanan Build a House End Poverty Gawad Kalinga GK Village Valentines Day Build

Valentines Day is not only meant for one specific person in your life - Valentines Day is meant for those you love and those who love you.

It was Friday morning when I decided to join this extra-ordinary event instead of dating someone special in life or hangout with friends. Yesterday was a blast and today were all great - greater than myself.

Bringing just myself, packed lunch and working gloves I take love to the next level - I celebrate heart day with great people who love to share, connect and inspire.

Still poor in the Philippines.

What is poverty?

Poverty has many definitions depending on the views of the people defining it. So the for us to clearly understand what is poverty, I have here some definitions from Wikipedia, Worldbank and United Nations.

"Poverty is general scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Poverty may be defined as either absolute or relative. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the lack of means necessary to meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Relative poverty takes into consideration individual social and economic status compared to the rest of society." - WIKIPEDIA

“Poverty is pronounced deprivation in well-being, and comprises many dimensions. It includes low incomes and the inability to acquire the basic goods and services necessary for survival with dignity. Poverty also encompasses low levels of health and education, poor access to clean water and sanitation, inadequate physical security, lack of voice, and insufficient capacity and opportunity to better one’s life.” - World Bank

“Fundamentally, poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to, not having the land on which to grow one’s food or a job to earn one’s living, not having access to credit. It means insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living in marginal or fragile environments, without access to clean water or sanitation.” - United Nations

There are many alternatives to lessen or finally aim for a zero percentage poverty in our country, the Philippines - one of those is building house project for the less fortunate people.
